“Building of The Year 2015”-Headquarters of the Natural Park of the island of Fogo, winner of the Archdaily contest

 

The headquarters building of the Natural Park of the island of Fogo, Cabo Verde built by Armando Cunha, is the winner of the international prize Archdaily Building of the Year 2015, announced on Thursday February 5, 2015, in the category «Cultural Buildings».

Founded in 2008, the Archdaily is the largest platform of contemporary architecture and every year nominates the best international architecture projects in various categories.

  • Description:

    The fact that it is an area without electricity, water or infrastructure, raised the challenge. The project was therefore a building ' off-grid ', i.e. completely self-sufficient, who'd recycle and could capture the rainwaters that were directed to deposit, and after filtered were introduced on the network of the building.

    Opened in March 2014, was built using local materials and techniques. The most emblematic material and more highlighted was the building texture, consisting of traditional concrete blocks. It was also mixed lava of the volcano with cement so that the building was integrated into the landscape.
