October 2015: The 12th and 13th of this month, was held the final inspection with the purpose of definitive reception of the contract for construction of the dam of Canto de Cagarra in Santo Antão. This activity was attended by representatives of companies / institutions ACCV, MDR, LEC and SONERF parts of the evaluation commission / reception of that work.
This great work doesn’t escape of the curious glances, which pass by every day.
According to a source published in the electronic journal “A Semana”, on October 15, 2015, the delegate of the Ministry of Rural Development in Ribeira Grande, Osvaldo Mauritius, says that since the water of the last rains came at the Canto de Cagarra dam, he observed a extraordinary movement of people from all corners of St. Antão and other places, who daily visit the infrastructure. Also said that currently is only in use the water from the underground dam that benefits the farmers of the Chã de Igreja Village. It is recalled that the infrastructure has the capacity to store one million and 118 thousand m3 of water (418.000 m3 on the surface and the underground part 700.000m3).
The water withdrawal will benefit two hundred of farmers and about 50 hectares of land.
