March 2015: Government has inaugurated the Cold Platform in Porto Grande Mindelo, Infrastructure that aims to convert the Port into a "Leading International Fishing base" for industrial fleets.
Initiated in February 2013, in a project funded in about 12.7 million Euros by the Government of the Kingdom of Spain, the Cold Platform, built from scratch in Porto Grande – Mindelo, on an area of 7.194 square meters, includes treatment, freezing and conservation of fishery products and perishable.
Compound by four buildings, in particular, a fish storage, a edifice to treatment and freezing the perishables products, the Ice Factory , where is processed and treated the fish, and the office, which can employ up to 250 people, when laboring at 100%, with capacity for two shifts / day.
The platform also provides a space for the conservation of importing products into the distribution chain and domestic consumption, with impact in the north agri-business support that allowed the storage, conservation and placement of products in the markets of the islands of Sal and Boavista.
